I'm Katie Richmond, a product designer based in London.

I trained in traditional product design and have nearly 10 years experience developing novelty food and drink gifts, homeware and games. I have been lucky enough to work on some weird and wonderful projects; from collaborating with drinks manufacturers to develop sparkly Unicorn Tears Gin, to creating and testing a range of ‘make your own kits’ (not all experiments made it into production) and leading a companywide Kickstarter campaign to bring some brilliantly ugly, giant pufferfish slippers to life.

Having worked with suppliers, manufacturers, and end customers I value the importance of clear communication and building strong working relationships. I am used to managing the end to end development of a large number of products and have been responsible for setting up new areas of business, creating structure and process.

In the last few years, having had a break from design, I have experienced working in new industries and as a result I feel I am able to adapt well to different people and deal with ambiguity and unfamiliar situations. My natural curiosity, eye for detail and methodical way of working enable me to quickly pick up new skills and expand my knowledge.

I have always been fascinated with how people interact with and perceive products and expanding my skills into UX design has offered me the opportunity to explore this from a digital perspective. I am really interested by the increasing merging of the physical and digital worlds and love being able to combine my experience of 3D design with digital design to explore the full customer experience. It’s really important to me that I can feel proud and be passionate about the products and services that I work on and I want to be part of a more sustainable and ethical digital future.
